Meta is reportedly developing a standalone AI app for its AI chatbot. Currently, Meta AI is integrated into Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Users can also access it through a web client, but no dedicated mobile or desktop app exists.
Now, Meta aims to expand its AI assistant’s reach and offer a more personalized experience. This move positions the company to compete directly with industry leaders like OpenAI and Google.
Meta Reportedly Developing Standalone AI App
A CNBC report suggests Meta plans to launch Meta AI as a separate app alongside its social media platforms. Sources familiar with the matter indicate the app could debut in the second quarter of the year, between April and June.
This move aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s goal to position Meta as an AI leader by the end of 2025. The company sees OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini—both available as standalone apps—as key competitors in this space.
Meta is reportedly planning to test a premium version of Meta AI with exclusive features for paid subscribers. This approach mirrors monetization models used by OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google.
Chief Financial Officer Susan Li told analysts earlier this year that Meta aims to create a “great consumer experience” with its AI assistant. She also highlighted “clear monetization opportunities” through paid recommendations.
During Meta’s Q4 earnings call in January, CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared his vision for Meta AI as a “highly intelligent and personalized AI assistant” with a goal of reaching over one billion users.
According to another report, Zuckerberg also revealed that Meta will invest up to $65 billion in AI projects in 2025. This budget includes a new data center and AI team expansions.
