Honor announced Sunday that it is developing an AI-powered “intelligent phone” and plans to invest $10 billion in AI collaborations.
Ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company revealed that the future device will feature a “personal mobile AI agent” capable of handling tasks like booking restaurant reservations. This initiative aligns with Honor’s goal to become a leading AI device ecosystem company.
AI “agents” are the latest trend in emerging technology. Companies like OpenAI are developing tools to handle tasks like scheduling and research. However, these services still need significant user supervision and input for now.
Honor Expands AI Efforts with Key Partnerships
Honor announced new partnerships with Google Cloud and Qualcomm to enhance its AI agent technology. Beyond AI agents, the company is using AI to improve photo quality on its smartphones. It also plans to introduce on-device tools to detect AI-generated deepfakes. Additionally, Honor unveiled new laptop and tablet models featuring its latest AI-powered innovations.
MWC remains a key stage for smartphone launches, with Xiaomi unveiling its latest flagship featuring a Leica-powered camera. Honor recently appointed Jian Li as CEO as it prepares for an independent stock market debut. In Sunday’s statement, Li emphasized AI’s role in reshaping the device industry. He called for global collaboration and pledged $10 billion in AI investments over the next five years.
Honor continues to expand internationally with high-end and foldable devices. Originally spun off from Huawei in 2020 due to US trade sanctions, the company has strengthened ties with major Chinese firms. Recent deals include cloud services with Tencent and a stake sale to China Mobile.
