Nvidia Is Now Worth More Than Britain’s Entire Economy. Bubble, Anyone?

By the AI Boom Team | Published 30 October 2025 Nvidia has become the first company in history worth $5 trillion. It crossed the line on 29 October, only three months after becoming the first to pass $4 trillion. For scale, the chipmaker is now worth more than the entire annual output of the UK, Japan or India, according to IMF figures quoted by the Associated Press.

How Nvidia got to $5 trillion

Nvidia makes the chips that train and run AI. Every chatbot, image generator and data centre needs them, so demand has exploded. This week, boss Jensen Huang revealed $500 billion in chip orders. Nvidia has also agreed to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, and $5 billion in Intel. Notice that money flows both ways here. Nvidia is investing in OpenAI, and OpenAI is one of its biggest chip customers.

Boom, bubble or both?

Not everyone is cheering. Earlier this month, the Bank of England warned that tech share prices inflated by AI could fall sharply. The head of the International Monetary Fund raised a similar alarm. Huang, for his part, says AI tools are now useful enough to make real money. History offers a clue. The dot-com crash of 2000 wiped out many firms, yet the internet still changed everything. A bubble can burst while the technology underneath keeps growing.

What it means for you

  • Check your pension. Many global funds now hold large slices of a handful of US tech firms.
  • Do not confuse share prices with usefulness. AI saves a small business time whatever the stock market does.
  • Watch the real economy too. Our look at UK GDP and technology shows where growth actually shows up.
