Recent data reveals which countries are the largest users of ChatGPT, with nations boasting robust IT industries taking the lead. ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, has quickly become a cornerstone of the AI sector, gaining global traction. Despite its origins in California, the U.S. does not top the list of users, according to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
Top Users: India, Morocco, UAE
BCG’s global survey aimed to gauge public interaction with AI. Respondents were asked whether they use ChatGPT, and the results were ordered by the percentage of positive responses. India led the way, with 45% of participants indicating they use the AI service. Morocco followed closely with 38%, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked third with 34%. Indonesia and Argentina shared the fourth spot at 32%, while South Africa was next with 31%. Interestingly, no Western countries made it to the top tier of ChatGPT users.
Lower Adoption in Western Nations
Despite its Silicon Valley roots, ChatGPT usage in the U.S. came in at just 22%, similar to Australia and the U.K. The countries with the highest adoption rates, such as India, UAE, Indonesia, and China, all have major IT industries. Additionally, the combined populations of India, China, and Indonesia represent over half of the global population, emphasizing the vast reach of this survey. Notably, 75% of global respondents have used ChatGPT or another AI tool at least once, with significant optimism surrounding AI’s potential in the workplace.
Public Perception: AI in Work and Life
Public sentiment towards AI varies. While 43% expressed excitement about using AI in everyday life, 29% voiced concerns. However, workplace AI adoption saw much stronger support, with 70% excited about its potential and only 15% concerned. Aparna Bharadwaj, a global leader at BCG, emphasized the importance of consumer perspectives, stating, “Business leaders must prioritize consumer views when deploying AI at scale.”
